First and Second Spring Brunches!

May 6, 2011 - Carol McBee

Last year we had our first brunch to really launch the Bossy Mama network.  It was our first big event and I believe it really showed women what we are all about.  We are a professional and highly organized network that really wants to connect women on a professional level.  Many of our members are moms and business owners and our brunch showed these women that there were other women just like them who need a specialized platform to grow their business and learn more about being an entrepreneur.  We had 2 amazing speakers last year and the overall theme was PR and Communications, which really stumps a lot of business owners.  As the President of Bossy Mama, I took it upon myself to find an even more important topic with “bigger and better” speakers.  I came to the realization over the summer of 2010 that what a lot of entrepreneurial women really want is to hear about how other women, just like them went from that “aha moment” to business (aka FINANCIAL!) success.  We all need mentors and due to busy schedules, hectic work hours and growing families, it isn’t always to easy to sit down and really learn from an experienced entrepreneurial woman.  This year, we will be welcomed by Tracey Scarlett of AWE and then we will get the inside details from 3 women from Moncton, Toronto and Vancouver on how they first began their businesses and their entrepreneurial journeys.  Many of our guests last year were also just starting to formulate their entrepreneurial plans and this year, our event will appeal and inspire future entrepreneurial women as well as women who have been in business for years.  This year we will lift spirits and share dreams!

I have been asked several times how I finally decided on 3 top Canadian Innovators....

    1. Laura Berg – I really liked the fact that she had been on Dragon’s Den – she took a fairly common skill (sign language) and created a baby signing program that is now all over the world.  She is spreading fantastic communication skills to families everywhere and is an amazing leader.  I have spoken to many of her companies Licensee’s and they all tell me the same thing – she is a strong, driven leader with amazing visions and goals.  She is most definitely someone I personally look up to!
    2. Traci Costa – Traci took her love for fashion and created an entire line of children’s clothing.  What I find most fascinating about her is that she had a very successful distribution business to tons of fabulous boutiques across North America.  Fairly recently she added an entirely new arm to her corporation; Direct Sales (via home parties and Independent Stylists)  Bossy Mama has many Direct Sales businesses and sales representatives and I know the type of reputation many of these women face.  One of our Board Members is a Vice President with Arbonne, and she can tell you first hand that it takes a very driven and distinct personality to succeed in that business model.  So, I am eager for her to explain her reasons for her Direct Sales endeavour and will hopefully really shine some light on that industry.
    3. Paula Morand – Paula actually won the Canadian Committed Entrepreneur Award with me last year (and the trip to Jamaica which I ended up passing on!)  I chose Paula because is a professional speaker and entrepreneur coach.  She started her coaching business many years ago and has since grown it to be wildly successful across North America.  She has created ground breaking and extremely successful coaching models just for entrepreneurs.  She is witty and clever and always an amazing keynote.  Paula will wrap up the day because although he is a entrepreneur with a great journey to share, she is also a professional entrepreneurs coach and can really give everyone in the room some amazing tips for success.  Paula is a sought after speaker and we are so lucky to have her inspire us!

I do hope you will join us at the second annual Bossy Mama brunch on May 15 at the Delta Edmonton South!  To buy tickets, simply visit www.bossymama.ca/spring-brunch
