Twitter Tip – Using Your Favorites Posted on Sunday, 10th January, 2010 Twitter is becoming a very powerful e-marketing tool and it’s uses seem to be ever evolving. One Twitter feature that doesn’t get a lot of recognition is the “Favorites” section. Hashtags, Retweets and @Replies seem to get all of the love… but how can we use Favorites to our advantage?
It’s easy to find your Favorites section. It can be found on the right hand menu on your Twitter profile or you can go via the url (http://www.twitter.com/username/favorites). So what now? Here are a few ideas to get the most out of your Favorites…
1. Start a collection of quality Tweets – ever see a Tweet and want to write it down so you don’t forget about it? I’ll often see something on my feed and want to keep it for future reference. I can simply “Favorite” the Tweet (hover over the Tweet and click the star) and it will be stored in my Favorites. I can then go and look at my Favorites section when I’m in need of an idea or some direction and go through interesting Tweets from the past.
2. Create a dynamic testimonials section for your website – If you and your customers are active on Twitter, you’ll probably experience some “Twitter love” from your adoring fans. The Favorites section is a great way to collect all of the complementary Tweets you and your business receive. The section has an RSS feed that you can put on your site. The feed will display these positive Tweets as they happen and voila… you’ve got an instant and up to date testimonials section!
3. Keep the information flowing – One of the biggest challenges facing a lot of website owners is time. No one seems to have time to update their website. Twitter can feed new content to your site with a click of a button. As mentioned above, the Favorites section comes complete with it’s own RSS feed. This feed allows you to post your favorite Tweets to your website. If you saw something that your readers/customers might enjoy, you could “Favorite” the Tweet and have it delivered to a widget on your website through the magic of RSS. Lots of people post their own Tweets to their website… why not post the Tweets of others as well?
Next time you’re on Twitter, give the Favorites section a try. It just might become one of your favorites…
