I have to say, I was a wee bit snobby when I was contacted to see if I was interested in testing a car made by Ford Canada. As a life-long car lover, I appreciate foreign cars. I have driven Lamborghini’s, Ferrarri’s, BMW’s, Mercedes and now as a suburban mom I drive a practical Volkswagon Passat. I like driving my simple German car that is comfortable, get’s excellent mileage and has ample trunk space for the stroller and groceries and toasty heated seats.
Truthfully, I really didn’t know what to expect – and was very surprised at how much I enjoyed driving the Lincoln MKX. Guys who love the vehicle are not going to be happy when I say this, but it is an amazing car for a woman. After the one touch unlock (which can be set to unlock just the driver’s door – GREAT security feature for dark parking lots!) my toddler was delighted to be lifted into her car seat only to see that there were TV’s in the headrests. As most moms know, gloves or mitts are impossible to use even on the coldest days when securing your child’s car seat. So, I normally alternate sitting on each hand to keep them from going numb after getting into the vehicle. The MKX has this uncomfortable problem solved..... the steering wheel is heated. Can you say GENIUS?! (or maybe you should say “female engineer!”) As a mom, many of us have trouble completing a quiet and uninterrupted phone call while at home. As a business owner, I often schedule my calls when I am in the car, because my daughter is usually happily buckled in and doesn’t make any noise. So, the Bluetooth handsfree was a dream. It took less than 30 seconds the first time I got into the vehicle to link my iphone and after that, no more holding the phone with one hand, while shifting with the other (and therefore driving with my knees) I don’t do this <THAT> often. Our first trip to the grocery store was very easy. Although the MKX is a fairly large vehicle, it was very easy to park at my local Save On Foods store. When we had finished our shopping and arrived back to the vehicle, one touch opened the rear hatch and then as many women can appreciate, one touch also lowered the hatch rather than trying to use the door indention that is supposed to help in lowering the hatch and generally just snaps off a few nail tips. Also, in our filthy winters, no more dirty hands from touching the hatch. They thought of everything!
Actually, Ford really did think of everything. Not only are the seats heated (front and rear passengers have the warm bum luxury!) but the seats are also ALL air conditioned. Not sure if this is a useful accessory in Edmonton, but thinking back to all the times my sweating back and legs stuck to the seat while I attended university in Texas, this would have been priceless!
Today was Day One of not having the MKX, and I have to say, getting back into my basic little car I almost felt like shedding a few tears like my toddler did when she discovered Mommy’s new car had to go back to the store. If you are in the market for a new vehicle, I would recommend checking this one out. Warm hands, warm bum and content children watching their favourite video while you chat handsfree to a girlfriend. Luxury!
